Success Stories

Nanette Chan (2017 Recipient)

How did the scholarship and event help you with your career?
After receiving the scholarship from TIP in Whistler last year, I used the funds to enrol and cover some tuition at BCIT for the Airport Operations Program. I hope that combining this with my Bachelors of Tourism Management will help me reach my career goals.

Where are you now? What are you doing?
With one term remaining, I am nearing the completion of my Tourism Management Degree at Capilano University. I currently work at Holiday Inn Express and Harbour Air Seaplanes. As always, I am working on my dream to be employed at the Vancouver Airport (YVR) in a managerial position.

What do you like most about the role you are in?
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love helping people and being a part of other’s travel experiences. That’s what makes my jobs so fun! I also enjoy working closely with my managers because they acknowledge my career goals and give me the opportunities to grow and succeed.

Linda Bramkamp (2016 Recipient)

How did the scholarship and event help you with your career?
The scholarship showed me that it is worth working hard for one’s goals and that motivation and perseverance are the keys to success. I am now more motivated at work than I have ever been because I know I can achieve anything I am setting my mind on. The event itself gave me the opportunity to establish connections with tourism and hospitality professionals and showed me how much passion there is for this industry. I am very glad to be part of this industry now.

Where are you now? What are you doing?
I am Operations Coordinator at Discover Holidays, a receptive tour operator here in Canada. I am responsible for updating and maintaining our booking system with all of the products and packages we are selling. Besides that I work hand in hand with our product department on reviewing supplier contracts and product details to create our tariffs. Together with our Director of IT I am also regularly working on improving our booking system for efficiency and accuracy.

What do you like most about the role you are in?
I really like that I am the “bridge” between two teams in our company: our product and reservations team. I need to keep both sides happy which makes my job very interesting and challenging sometimes. In addition to that I get to know Canada and Alaska a bit better every day by working with all the different products we are selling.

More to come!
